Black walnut trees grow to 50-75 feet tall and form a round or umbrella-shaped crown, with few lower branches, making them popular trees for landscapes, parks, etc. They are also valuable for lumber. Widlife enjoy the walnuts, and many caterpillars eat the leaves including luna moths. Emits a substance called juglones into the soil that prohibits the growth of some other plants including apple trees. Prefers medium, moist soils and full sun. Sold as a small, dormant, single bare root seedling, about 24-36 inches tall.
